INTERVIEW & PHOTOGRAPHY Dylan McCutcheon-Peat
STYLING Ciaran & Dylan
TALENT Lucas Jones, Felix Hubar & Oliver Murphy
Earlier this year, rising designer Ciaran Naylor was awarded the iD International Emerging Designer Award in ÅŒtepoti/Dunedin, a recognition that marked the quiet force and originality behind his winning collection, New Patina.

Shot and interviewed for It’s Interval by creative peer and collaborator Dylan McCutcheon-Peat, the feature celebrates both Ciaran’s design process and their shared visual language—one rooted in tactility, narrative, and a kind of utilitarian romanticism.

Inspired in part by Richard Avedon’s stark and iconic book In The American West, New Patina plays with the tension between formality and lived experience. Each garment is constructed not to preserve perfection, but to embrace wear. Its concept is beautifully simple: let the clothes age with the wearer—each scuff, crease, and patina becoming a marker of personal story.

In a world obsessed with the new, Naylor reminds us of the poetry in things that last.
