INTERVIEW Jonny Seymour
In the realm where fashion meets fantasy, joy resonator GERWYN DAVIES has crafted out an entirely unique universe of his own. The Australian artist, photographer, light worker, rainbow couturier and costume alchemist, transforms his human form into surreal, hyper-stylised characters through intricate self-styled ensembles that blur the lines between fashion, sculpture, dreams and performance. Gerwyn’s creations are a celebration of artifice and excess, rejecting traditional notions of identity and instead revelling in transformation – opening portals to queer divinity. come dive into the deep universe of Gerwyn to explore his creative process, inspirations and how he continues to push the boundaries of post drag dress ups.

You just have to throw yourself out there, and be prepared to make a fool of yourself to generate something really magical. I think that it’s not about overcoming that sense of being a failure, fraud, or the risk of making hideous work – it’s just accepting that’s just another important part of the process of making. GERWYN DAVIES

Costume is a wonderful armour. It acts like a shield and makes you feel powerful. Anyone that steps into a costume of any kind understands that – the sensation of transformation. It gives you an opportunity to become someone or something else, or to test, explore and express important parts of yourself; to change your mind on a whim, to move through the world with more confidence and courage.
